State of AI Visibility: Accounting Software in the DACH Market (2026)

Deutschland · measured June 10, 2026

We asked the six leading AI engines which accounting tools they recommend in Germany, across 1,260 real queries. The result flips the usual story: the top five are all German (sevDesk, lexoffice, DATEV, Papierkram, BuchhaltungsButler) — DACH tools outscore the international ones.

When a buyer asks an AI assistant for the best accounting software, the answer is increasingly the buying decision itself. We measured how 15 tools (7 from the DACH region, 8 international) appear across all six leading AI engines for German-language, buyer-intent questions. Each tool's AI Visibility Score (0–100) blends how often it is mentioned, how prominently, its share of voice against rivals, citations and sentiment.

Key findings

  • All five top spots are German tools — sevDesk, lexoffice, DATEV, Papierkram and BuchhaltungsButler. The highest-placed international tool, QuickBooks, lands only 6th.
  • DACH accounting tools average an AI Visibility Score of 65, versus 58 for the international ones — the local incumbents lead by about 7 points. That is the mirror image of a global category like project-management software, where the international tools led.
  • Why the flip: for German-language accounting questions, AI engines lean on German-language authority and the entrenched local market leaders (DATEV, lexoffice, sevDesk).
  • sevDesk leads at 74, but no tool owns the category — even it holds only about 52% share of voice. AI visibility here is contestable.
  • Where you appear depends on the engine: Gemini mentions brands most often (76% on average), while ChatGPT is the most selective (63%).
  • The lesson for your own category: in DACH-native categories, local brands can win AI visibility; in global categories you are fighting the international incumbents. Measure yours to know which fight you are in.

Methodology

Method: 15 tools (7 DACH, 8 international) × 6 AI engines (ChatGPT via GPT-4o-mini, Perplexity Sonar, Gemini 2.5 Flash, Claude Sonnet, plus Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot via a licensed SERP provider) × 7 buyer-intent prompts × 2 runs = 1,260 real queries, all in German for the German market, measured June 2026. Scores aggregate only real (non-degraded) answers; coverage was 100%, so every tool was measured on the identical engine set and the ranking is strictly like-for-like. Results are a point-in-time snapshot and AI answers are non-deterministic.
